In March 2015 Dr. Ellis represented FaraPack Polymers and The University of Sheffield by giving an invited talk at TMS 2015. The presentation, entitled ‘Effect of greyscale on the properties of High Speed Sintered Elastomers’ complemented the work outlined on greyscale in The Engineer. The paper presented the effects of altering the dosage of ink (greyscale) on the properties of parts produced from elastomers. The results indicated that print density may be optimised to maximise mechanical properties and have achieved an elongation at break as high as 365%. The findings also show the possibility of creating parts with added functionality. By using differing amounts of ink per layer it may be possible to create parts with varying properties throughout.
